Small Title

MySunshine (web 1).jpeg

Art is a source of healing and awakening for both the artist and the viewer. I have always loved art, from finger painting as a child to now painting with colored pencils and oils. Creating narrative art is my passion.

The art I create is greatly influenced by my exotic Sri Lankan roots and vast travel experiences. I am most passionate about rendering portraits in all their perfect imperfections and integrating the play of light and shadow into my creations. Typically, I am drawn to subjects that speak to my ethnic sensibility and to a palette of vibrant colors. I use colored pencils as my predominant medium, applying varying pencil pressure and meticulously placing layer after layer of color to achieve realism. The marks I make are left intentionally evident and I avoid the use of blenders with few exceptions. I absolutely relish accentuating delicate and intricate details, and this is evident in my work. Most often, I am lost in a meditative process while drawing and rejoice at that moment when the layers of color sculpt and bring to life the form that emerges from the paper. I strive to capture an emotion, a moment suspended in time, through a narrative visual experience.

"As a student of art history and a collector of art, I found Suha's painting online and knew I needed to have it. My oldest and dearest friend always wore her hair in braids when we were children - as did her sister and her three daughters. The details and calmness of the painting brought me back to my youth. It was a very meaningful gift to my friend and she has it displayed in her gorgeous home very prominently. Suha has talent beyond measure. Lucky us for finding it and her!" ~ Katie B., Chevy Chase, DC
